The Swedish mezzo-soprano Karin Lovelius made her debut in the United States, Carnegie Hall in 2004. Furthermore she has sung in houses like Oper Leipzig, Semperoper, Stockholm Opera, Helsinki Opera, Hessisches Staatstheater and Gothenburg Opera. In 2018 she makes her debut at Théâtre du Capitole. She has also sung in Italy and Norway.

Karin Lovelius graduated with a master in opera from the Sibelius Academy and has received coaching from Anne Sofie von Otter and Christa Ludwig.


She is sought after as a concert singer and has worked with orchestras such as The Gewandhaus Orchestra, Malmö Symphonic Orchestra and Bayerische Rundfunk Orchestra. Karin Lovelius has recorded art songs for broadcasting companies such as The Swedish Radio and Bayerische Rundfunk and premiered new pieces from Gerd Kühr and Reine Jönsson. In The Musica Nova Festival she sang the Duchess in Thomas Adés Powder her face.


Karin Lovelius has collaborated with artists such as Wolfgang Brendel, Matthias Foremny, Axel Kober, Peter Konwitschny, Damiano Michieletto, Sir Jonathan Miller, Susanna Mälkki, Alejo Perez, Laurence Renes, Jan-Hendrik Rootering, Ulf Schirmer, Doris Soffel, Marc Soustrot, Nina Stemme, Irene Theorin and Omer Wellber.


She has won prizes in the United States and received several grants from the Swedish Arts Council.


Karin Lovelius is currently in the ensemble at Oper Leipzig( 2010) where she has sung roles such as Fricka (Die Walküre and Das Rheingold), Waltraute and First Norn, Die Amme in Die Frau ohne Schatten, Gertrud in Hänsel und Gretel, Baba in The Rakes Progress and Klytämnestra in Elektra. Upcoming roles 17/18 are Judith in Bluebeard’s Castle and Jezibaba in Rusalka. During the Strauss week in Leipzig, June 2017, she will sing Die Amme and her first Herodias in Salome. Her next concert is together with the Gewandhaus Orchestra where she will sing Morgen by Strauss.
